Regional Councillor for the City of Waterloo Running Again

in 2010 Municipal Election.

Regional Councillor Jane Mitchell has filled out her nomination papers to run in the 2010 Municipal election.  As we move into the next decade we need forward-thinking people like Jane to keep improving Waterloo Region.

Jane states, “I look forward to using my knowledge and experience to work for you during the next term. I have enjoyed the past term and am proud of the new Regional Official Plan that preserves agriculture and environmentally sensitive lands while improving the livability of our urban areas.

I worked hard to improve transit and cycling lanes and helped struggling parents keep their daycare. I spoke up with ways to reduce the budget and rationalize Regional departments through audits. I saved taxpayers 30 million dollars by pointing out better ways to compost our green bin materials.

Especially in these difficult times, there is more to do. We must continue to make sure there are supports and training for those who have lost their jobs along with social services and housing. We must make sure new positions replace those that are gone forever.  We must continue to keep a balance between the cost to the taxpayers and the needs of our region.”

Jane Mitchell is Chair of the Employment and Income Advisory Committee, past-chair of the Licensing and Retail Committee, vice-chair of the Community Service Committee and 1st vice-chair of the Grand River Conservation Authority. She was recently nominated for Oktoberfest Woman of the Year, Community Service.
